Rep Team Coaches Evaluation
2011/2012 Team Staff Evaluation Dear Parents or Players: We would like to encourage you to participate in the CGHA Team Staff Evaluations. The CGHA is trying a new evaluation process this year and has moved the process online. We feel this will give every family a totally anonymous way to provide feedback. We also would like to encourage you to submit an evaluation whether you are satisfied or dissatisfied with your daughter's current staff. The CGHA uses these evaluations to help select coaching staff for next year. Each team will receive 17 envelopes with a unique non-sequential passcode sealed inside from your manager or coach. For those without computer access a paper form can still be filled out and dropped off in the water room at Rickard Arena. Link to Evaluation

Rally for Harmon Park Arena
To our Clarington Players & Families
The CGHA invites you to come together with our Oshawa friends and partners in hockey Thursday, January 19 @ 6:30pm outside Oshawa City Hall in a rally to support the continued growth and development of Harmon Park Arena. Each of us from Novice through to Bantam have enjoyed a challenging competitive interlock with OGHA and have played many a game at Harmon Park. As you all know the development of and allocation of arenas and ice for girl's hockey continues to be a challenge and we must do what we can to support one that 'lives in our backyard'...please show your support by attending this important rally. Every voice counts. For more information and a message from the OGHA Vice President please read on...
Hello: On Thursday January 19 at 6:30 pm there will be a special meeting of Oshawa City Council to address the issue of Harmon Park. I will be speaking on behalf of the Oshawa Girls Hockey Association. My goal is to ensure that our organization has the ice time and resources to maintain and grow the programs that we feel are important. To accomplish this, Oshawa City Council need to hear from us. There will also be a rally of all of the ice users (players, coaches, parents, etc) outside City Hall at that time.
I am hoping that you will consider attending the rally to ensure that Council hears a balanced view of the issues.
I welcome any feedback that you may have
Sincerely Ralph Hofmann OGHA Vice-President (Competitive)

Cummins Champs in Milton
Clarington Flames Cummins Peewee recently travelled to Milton in mid November to participate in The North Halton Twisters annual tournament. After placing first in their division with three straight wins, they advanced to the playoffs as the #1 seed based on the goals-for tie breaker rule. In the semi-final game versus ‘The Vipers' from Mississauga Cummins found themselves down early 2-0 on two quick goals in the first period. The early deficit did not seem to affect their work ethic as they took the game over by hemming the opposition in their end for most of the remainder of the game. All the hard work culminated with the go ahead goal in the third period. The Vipers did not quit and drew a late slashing call which forced Cummins to dig deep for the late game penalty kill which secured the win. In the championship game the team remembered their lacklustre start in the semi final and scored on the first shift. That early goal seemed to deflate the opposition from Oakville and Cummins went on to win the final 4-1. Members of the team are Kristen Brunt, Abby Heslop, Megan Meredith, Talia Coderre, Kerri Reynolds, Nicole VanMeer, Melissa Pigden, Hailey Walsh, Emily Hill, Nicolle Lawrie, Nadia Lubenko, Hunter Perry, and Hailey Elmer between the pipes.

Novice A 2011 Applefest Champions

Congratulations to the Novice A team on their victory at our very own Applefest Tournament. The girls finished 2nd in round robin play (despite not losing a game) and were relegated to the semi-final where they dominated in a 2-0 victory over the Waterloo Ravens. The final would find the Flames girls pitted against rival Oshawa, a team they had yet to beat this year. Up 1-0 after two periods of play the girls potted the insurance goal with less than 4minutes to go wrapping up the Gold Medal! Hard work was the key to victory, way to go girls, you made us very proud!
Clarington Bantam ‘AA' strikes Gold at Willowdale Redwings (Toronto, Ontario)
The Bantam AA Flames went 4-1 over the weekend, winning the final game 7-0 against the Windsor Wildcats team.
Defence was the word for the weekend as the Flames only allowed 5 goals in 5 games, goalies Brooke Hallett and Rachel McQuigge combined for 2 shut-outs in 5 games.
In the round robin Clarington started the tournament against St. Catharine Chaos, Clarington played a great defencive game to a 4 -1 victory. Later that day they played the Windsor Wildcats, but Clarington ran into penalty problems and lost 4-2. Saturday afternoon Clarington shutout the North York Storm 5-0, Sunday morning was a friendly battle against the Clarington Flames 'A' Team who also played an excellent tournament. The Flames 'AA' team had to beat the Flames 'A' team to reach the finals, it was a well played game with parents all over the rink cheering for both teams. In the end it was the Flames 'AA' team winning 5-3 in an exciting game. In the final game the Flames got what they wanted - a rematch against the team that beat them two days prior. The girls came out blazing with the first goal at the 2 minute mark followed by 3 more quick ones by the end of the first. World Girl's Hockey Day
CELEBRATION OF FEMALE HOCKEY AT ALL AGES IIHF WORLD GIRLS' HOCKEY DAY WHAT IS THE WORLD GIRLS' HOCKEY DAY? It's time to celebrate the future of female hockey around the world! On 2nd October 2011, the IIHF is hosting the first annual World Girls' Hockey Day. Female hockey is one of the fastest growing sports in the world . Events like Girl's Hockey Days and similar programs that are being run in many countries. It is an opportunity for girls of all ages to try ice hockey.
WHAT CAN OWHA MEMBERS DO? We are looking for your ideas to bring girls from their community together on the ice so they can: - be introduced to basic skills in hockey in a positive, fun and safe environment.
- learn about opportunities in ice hockey in their community.
- learn about fair play, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
- meet new friends and have a chance to fall in love with a new sport.
- celebrate female hockey
- promote female hockey
We are looking for your ideas to create initiatives and publicize existing activities to bring exposure to female hockey across Ontario. The Ontario Women's Hockey Association has registered with the IIHF as a host and will incorporate all OWHA programs as part of the Ontario, Canada Celebration. The goal is to give girls a chance to play. The goal is to give exposure and credibility to the wonderful role models in Ontario.
WHAT DO I DO? Post the OWHA World Girls' Hockey Day Banner on your web site Send an email to info@owha.on.ca to advise your interest in participation. We will send you a form so you can provide details of your event. Attach any flyers or other information you wish us to post or link from the OWHA web site. If you are running a program for new players: - advertise within your community about the event to draw as many participants as you have space for.
- organize ice time and arrange some coaches to run some very basic and fun drills.
- have a certified person at the event to take care of any first aid needs based on the legal requirements.
SOME SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO PROMOTE THE EVENT OR ADD TO THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS: - have members of the women's national team, under-18 provincial team, CWHL, PWHL, CIS or role model players from your association be part of the event, famous coaches or hockey legends who want to support the event - on the ice, autograph sessions, and just sharing their love of the game.
- have each team member bring one friend to the event (if you have 15 players on your team, you will automatically have 15 new girls coming!).
- hold information sessions for parents on the sport and the opportunities
- do off-ice hockey activities for younger girls or participants who cannot skate in addition to the on-ice portion so they get a chance to use a stick and ball while in shoes as they may not be able to do many of the activities on the ice.
Send an email to info@owha.on.ca to advise your interest in participation.
